Liberty Rewards Fourth-Year Coach with Lavish Contract Extension

Eight-Year Extension Secures Hugh Freeze's Future

Liberty University has rewarded fourth-year head coach Hugh Freeze with a fully guaranteed eight-year contract, elevating him among the highest-paid coaches in the Group of Five conferences. The lucrative deal, which runs until 2030, demonstrates the university's unwavering commitment to Freeze and his program.

Auburn Agrees to Six-Year Contract with Freeze

Prior to his appointment at Liberty, Freeze agreed to a six-year contract with Auburn University. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the deal was reportedly worth an average of $65 million annually. Freeze ultimately declined the Auburn offer to remain at Liberty, where he has led the team to unprecedented success.

Freeze's Accomplishments at Liberty

Since joining Liberty in 2019, Freeze has transformed the football program. In his first season, the Flames posted a 8-5 record, their best since moving to FBS in 2018. The following year, Liberty went 10-1, their first 10-win season in program history. In 2021, the Flames finished 8-5 and earned a berth in the LendingTree Bowl, their first bowl appearance since 2016.

A Bright Future for Liberty Football

With Freeze at the helm, Liberty University has established itself as a formidable force in the Group of Five. The eight-year contract extension is a testament to the university's belief in his leadership and the bright future that lies ahead for Flames football.
